New Constructions - Ropes and Snares
I tried to add a little "Notes" section so I can also talk about my thoughts and experiences, rather than just say "x was added/changed".
New Constructions: Rope, Snare, Snare Winch
These Constructions rely on each other to operate.
These were originally only going to be for moving enemies around, but to give them more use, I decided to add a little bit of damage. To make up for the effort of having to craft and setup 3 different types of constructions, they're extremely cheap.
The Snare system can be used for pulling enemies into traps or just getting them away from you. Another use of Rope is keeping Fires alive and even spreading them, as Rope is the cheapest flammable Construction.
Notes: These 3 were probably the most problematic Constructions for 3 reasons: they were interconnected, hard to balance, and overly complicated. I won't go into the details, but it was only after I added and refined the different systems in the game that I was able to add them back in.
Spawn Information:
The Info Tool can now examine Spawn Warnings to tell what enemy is about to spawn.
Notes: UI is hard, for me at least. In this specific case, I wasn't sure how I could cleanly incorporate the spawn information, so I ended up not adding any new system. To expound on this: though the UI looks fairly fine right now, the code and organization in the background is kind of a mess, making it difficult for me to add new UI elements.
Future Plans:
None so far, because I'm already moving onto another little project...
... I was considering adding a Generator construction, but I had trouble designing the sprite animation, so we'll see how that progresses. Another possible construction to add is the Automatic Harvester, but I'm still only considering this. Finally, I was considering adding a Resource Box construction that only spawns during Map Generation, but all of these are just pending ideas.
